Spellcasting[]
Magic in Aeonia comes in many forms, woven with different techniques and drawn from different sources. Spellcasting is the practice of channeling energies and shaping them into tools and weapons in the hands of mages.
- A mage must have at least one free uninjured and unrestrained hand to cast a spell (spell packets used during the delivery of the spell do not count as occupying a hand)
- A mage cannot wear armor in order to be able to cast spells, unless noted otherwise by their tradition and path.
- A mage must utter the incantation of the spell clearly (fumbling the incantation interrupts the spell, but does not expend it)
- A mage may not run or fight while casting
- Receiving a hit or effect while uttering the incantation interrupts the spell
Touch and Packet Spells[]
Spells delivered by either touch or spell packet must be delivered/thrown immediately after the incantation finishes. If the mage is unable to touch their target or throw the spell at that moment the spell cannot be completed and they must start again (this does not expend the spell)
Touch Spell Delivery[]
Delivering a spell requires the mage to touch the target and use the meta-call of the effect employed as per the spell description.
Sustained Spells[]
Spells that have a duration and/or charges come into effect as soon as the incantation finishes and can then be delivered while the duration has not elapsed and there are charges remaining. Delivering the effect of such a spell consumes a charge.
